TGezRGB: TurboGrafx 16 RGB Mod

Posted by in News

The TurboGrafx 16 was a great system with a good collection of games, albeit with a short lifespan. With all that it had going for it there was still one bottleneck in the way… RF only output. RF provides the worst quality video output, because it carries both the audio and video signals in a single cable. In recent years there have been several articles outlining DIY modifications to add RGB video output to the TurboGrafx 16. Now there’s a simple to install RGB kit with stereo audio output from the…read more

Everdrive N8 Review

With the rarity of some NES games and the prices starting to get out of hand it can be really difficult to find those old games that have been calling out to you from your childhood. You’ve probably used emulators, and while they’re fun, they just don’t feel right. I’m not speaking of ethics but the feeling you get when you play a physical game. If you’ve got a Steam account, then you probably know what I mean; how many of those games have you actually played? Compare that to…read more

Finding a Gyromite Famicom Adapter

Posted by in Guides

If you’ve ever wanted to start importing Famicom games and play them on your NES you’ll find that not only do the cartridges have completely different dimensions, but the number of pins on the contained boards are completely different as well. To play them you’ll need a Famicom to NES adapter. The simplest solution would be to find an adapter that let’s you connect the Famicom cartidge directly to the adapater, without disassembly, such as the Honey Bee. The only problem with these solutions are that they can be hard to…read more

Rhea: Saturn Optical Drive Emulator

Posted by in News

The developer behind the GDEMU, the optical drive emulator (ODE) for the Sega Dreamcast, has released a new ODE for the Sega Saturn, called “Rhea“. This device has the same 100% compatibility and easy install as the GDEMU. Currently Rhea only supports Sega Saturns that have a 20-pin drive connector, but he’s making great progress with the 21-pin version. So, hopefully that will be released soon as well. Keep checking the Rhea ordering page for your chance to pre-order one of these: https://gdemu.wordpress.com/ordering/ordering-rhea/ Also, let me know if you get one and…read more

Opening an NES Cartridge

Posted by in Guides

If you’ve been collecting NES games for any length of time you’ve probably come across some cartridges that could use a good cleaning, but when you go to open them up you find that these aren’t any ordinary screws. Nintendo uses special 3.8mm security screws on their cartridges instead of standard phillips or flat head ones you find on most products. To open these you’ll need to purchase a 3.8mm security bit from either eBay, Amazon, or retro video game specialty stores. I recommend purchasing a pack that comes with…read more

Nintendo 64DD Games Playable on Everdrive 64

Posted by in News

If you’ve read my last review on the Everdrive 64 you’ll know that it’s arguably the best Nintendo 64 flash cart available and now it’s about to get even better. There’s an ongoing discussion over at the discussion boards on Krikzz’s website about Nintendo 64 Disk Drive (64DD) games that have been dumped to rom files and have been modified in order to run on the Everdrive 64. Currently, you’ll need to install a custom OS on the Everdrive 64, but that is as simple as copying a few files to…read more

Everdrive 64 Review

Posted by in Reviews

The Nintendo 64 had some of the best multiplayer/party games of all time, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, just to name a few, but some of these games can be a lot harder to come by lately and the prices are going up. Nintendo’s Virtual Console have been a great way to play these classics, but there are still many games that simply won’t be re-release any time soon. As far as emulation goes, while there has been great progress (with many games now playable) they’re not accurate…read more

GDEMU: Dreamcast Optical Drive Emulator

Posted by in News

The Sega Dreamcast is a disc based system, and as with any console containing moving parts those parts can break down over time. Recently, someone developed a device, called GDEMU, which can emulate the optical drive by loading the GD-ROM images off of an SD card. This is a great way to not only have access to all your Dreamcast games, while preserving the original copies, but also opens the oppurtunity to have fan-translated and other homebrew games as well. You can purchase the GDEMU directly from the developer’s website….read more
